METHODS: The women in the intervention group took Ginger capsules at 1,000 mg/day

The study involved 67 women randomly assigned to 2 groups: an intervention group and the control group. The women in the intervention group received 250 mg of Ginger capsules four times a day (total dose of 1,000 mg/day) and the women in the control group received placebo (dummy capsules without ginger).

Among the groups were age, week of pregnancy, number of previous births, occupational status, and level of education. The average age of women in the intervention group was 24.1, and the mean age of women in the control group was 23.3. The average gestational age was 13 weeks. 

The treatment was evaluated twice a day for 4 days by questionnaires completed before and after treatment.

Results of the study

The improvement rate was higher in women in the intervention group than in the control group (85% of the women compared to 56% of p <0.05)). (50% of women compared to 9%, p <0.05)) In women in the intervention group was also significantly greater among women in the control group.

CONCLUSIONS:

Ginger capsules, 1,000 mg daily, may relieve nausea and vomiting in women during pregnancy, adding that ginger is an effective and safe herbal remedy for relieving nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.
