Magnesium is the fourth most common mineral in the body, and second most commonly in intracellular fluid. This mineral is involved, inter alia, in the process of producing proteins and nuclearic acids in the body, and is an essential component in the activity of about 300 cellular enzymes involved in energy production and metabolism. About 50% of the total magnesium in the body is found in bone. The other half is found mainly inside the cells of the body tissues and organs. Only 1% of the magnesium is found in the blood, and a great deal of investment is required to maintain this constant level of magnesium in the blood.
