Description
This gorgeous, vibrant, tallit prayer shawl is almost as much of an art piece as it is a sacred piece of Judaica. The bold violet hues used in this cotton prayer shawl are not only stunning; they have a beautiful meaning behind them as well. The creator of this tallit used painted silk to represent the royalty and greatness of Hakadosh Baruch Hu.
During biblical times, the color purple, referred to as Argaman in the Torah, denoted royalty and wealth, as it was extremely rare in nature to come by, and is said by some that it was equal to gold. There are many different ideas as to where the actual color came from, but most believe it was derived from a certain species of snail, called the murex or purpura snail. Fabrics were dyed with the extracted color for robes fit only for powerful kings.
The incredibly talented Yair Emanuel, who designed and handmade this tallit, likes to create various Judaica that harmonize traditional with contemporary art.He has been designing beautiful pieces in his studio located in Jerusalem for several years.
