Salgar The Salvia Officinalis (Salvia officinalis) has been used for hundreds of years as a culinary plant and also as a medicinal herb in medical use. Sage contains organic acids, polyphenols and essential vegetable oils used as powerful antioxidants.
The sage plant has many health benefits and is considered effective for reducing inflammation, for treating infections of the respiratory system and the throat and for treating digestive disorders such as gas and swelling. Sage is also known to have a disinfectant effect, such as contraction of blood vessels, preventing bleeding, and reducing hyperhidrosis (effective for hyperthyroidism). Sage is also known as a gentle estrogen promoter suitable for reducing night sweats during menopause.
New research has shown that sage also contains other compounds that have a inhibitory effect on the breakdown of acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Raising acetylcholine levels in the brain helps improve cognitive function (eg Alzheimer's), balance moods, and improve memory and concentration.
