Decorated with golden motifs including some of Judaism’s most sacred elements, this silver plated Yemenite features engravings of the Holy Ark of the Covenant, the Menorah, grape clusters, and an ancient Israelite coin. An excellent showcasing of Israel’s riches past and present, physical and spiritual, this Yemenite shofar (made from the long, curved horn of a kudu) is sure to be a beautiful enhancement to your Jewish observance and collection.
The shofar is a simple but versatile instrument, capable of producing both long, wailing bursts of sound and short, staccato blasts. While this Yemenite shofar is made from a kudu’s horn, a more common shofar is a ram’s horn. However, the shofar can be made from any animal deemed “kosher” by the Torah (the Jewish Bible). The horn, however, must be flawless; a crack in its surface would render it unfit for service.
