Decorated with two large sleeves of beautifully embossed silver plating, this Yemenite Judaica shofar features intricately detailed artwork depicting important religious motifs: the Menorah, lions, and a cluster of grapes. The golden Menorah was one of several sacred objects present in the Holy Temple in ancient Jerusalem; the lion was the emblem of the monarchy tribe of Yehudah (Judah), and grapes remain one of Israel’s well-known species of produce to this day. This beautiful and elegant shofar, made from the horn of a kudu animal, is certain to add beauty to the Rosh Hashana festivities.
During the High Holiday period between Rosh Hashana (the New Year according to the Jewish calendar) and Yom Kippur, it is customary to blow the shofar. The shofar is blown for a total of one hundred blasts durinShacharitcharit (morning) prayer service of the New Year festival. Its wailing cry serves to stir feelings of repentance and longing for closeness with G-d during this period.
