This unique and artistic Yemenite serves to remind its owner of every Jewish person’s true home - the Holy Land of Israel. Made from a beautiful kudu horn in the style of traditional Yemenite shofarot (Hebrew plural form of “shofar”), this shofar is delightfully adorned with three silver plated sleeves, depicting motifs of Israel’s Old City, Jerusalem, with its quaint brick buildings and ancient, maze like footpaths. These designs are dotted with bits of gold, an appropriate touch because Jerusalem has been dubbed the City of Gold!
The shofar is a special instrument, made from a kosher animal’s horn, that is used during the Jewish High Holiday period - most notably, on Rosh Hashana, the New Year per the Jewish calendar. The shofar’s call is said to stir feelings of repentance in the listener’s heart. Today, modern Middle Eastern musicians have embraced the shofar’s ethereal sound in their art.
