This Rosh Hashana, you can bring home a unique and particularly beautiful with silver plating depicting a golden Star of David and a blue stone. While many shofarot are made from polished ram’s horns, this Yemenite shofar comes from the horn of a kudu. Like all of G-d’s contributions to nature, no two shofarot are exactly the same. These silver-plated decorations are custom fitted to the shape of each shofar, and serve to only enhance the polished shofar horn’s brown-hued natural beauty.
During the Jewish New Year festival, it is an important mitzvah to hear the shofar being blown in the synagogue during morning prayer services. The shofar’s plaintive call serves to stir feelings of longing in the Jewish person’s heart: longing for repentance and closeness with their Creator. The Hebrew word “teshuva” is often translated as “repentance,” but it more literally translates to “returning.” When a Jewish person repents for a sin, they are returning to a greater degree of closeness with G-d.
