Kiddush cups are a bit of a speciality for Israeli craftsman and artist Yair Emanuel. These wooden goblets are painted in vibrant acrylic before being carefully coated with multiple layers of clear food and drink quality lacquer. Hand washable, these fancy judaica cups will hold their appeal for years.
Written in the book of Deuteronomy for all the ages, seven species receive special attention. These seven species decorate the six cups which are suitable for any holiday. Each of the seven species represents a different aspect of our humanity. Wheat and barley are here represented on a single goblet by “grain,” and are correlated with our inner selves. The Torah refers to both as the staples of the Jewish diet. The grape represents wine, or joy. The fig denotes knowledge. Symbolized by the pomegranate, we have a soul full of goodness. Our inner struggle is represented by the olive which thrives in harsh climates. Tranquility, lastly, is represented by the date fruit.
