Night primrose oil contains more than 80% unsaturated fats, and the concentration of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) is considered to be particularly high. Night primrose oil is also considered to be a source of high GLA concentration.
For centuries, oil produced from the night lamp has been used for medical purposes. The GLA is a hormone-like substance called prostaglandin. This substance has anti-inflammatory properties and can also be used as a blood thinner. Using the product over time can improve rheumatoid arthritis. GLA contributes to hormonal balance (especially on the mental side) and is used to treat premenstrual syndrome accompanied by congestion and tenderness in the breasts, to prevent neuropathic problems in diabetics and to improve skin problems such as eczema.
